OEM, short for Original Equipment Manufacturer, means that these batteries were made by the original producer of the product (for example Nokia, Samsung or Motorola). All batteries not made by the Original Equipment Manufacturer are considered „aftermarket“, meaning they are made by a second party.

When talking of battery life, there are two main issues to be considered. The first is: how can you make your battery charge last longer? The second one is: how can you prolong the life of your battery overall?

The answers are simple, just think about why the company which sells aftermarket batteries can do that for less money. In order to do so they have to cut down their cost and will use lower quality, less durable and cheaper materials.
Also in most cases aftermarket battery producers are not obliged to apply the same quality controls as OEM Cell Phone Batteries manufacturers. In many cases even the production process is compromised.
Even if these batteries look the same and in the short term save you money they cost you more if you think long term as you have to replace them much sooner as they life cycle is much shorter.
So stick with OEM Cell Phone Batteries and stay mobile longer!
